Transit ATU & Probe Research Inc. Poll

ATU and Probe Research Transit Poll

Polling released by Probe Research Inc. and ATU is an interesting read for its contradictions, and its reflections during a pandemic.

So what does a politician do with a poll that reveals that compared to other urban Canadian cities Winnipeg is less likely to say transit is a critical service?  How about that compared to other urban cities in Canada, Winnipeg residents don’t believe transit gets enough funding?

Critically important is continued investments in transit.

I look forward to debating the Winnipeg Transit Master Plan in 2020. A plan stated to provide a 25 year vision for Transit services and infrastructure that will support a growing city.  Important moves within the 2020 budget underpin a continued growth trajectory for a healthy transit system, with key investments that include:

  • Over $13.1 million over the next four years for a new “spine and feeder” transit service model that will serve the SWT by providing high frequency, reliable, efficient and significantly improved service for passengers who travel to, from and within southwest Winnipeg.
  • The new spine and feeder transit service model will provide high frequency reliable service for passengers who travel to, from and within, southwest Winnipeg through changes to existing routes and addition of new routes.
  • Twenty eight new 60 ft. articulated buses, along with seven new rapid transit stations located at various points along Stage 2 of the SWT.

Review the report.
