Grow-a-Row for Winnipeg Harvest!

Posted on: May 12, 2020

Ready, Set, Grow-a-Row for Winnipeg Harvest!

Thanks to the permaculture-promoting-pros Riverview Garden Society and Sustainable South Osborne Community Co-op, City Hall will be following more sustainable practices this year. Both organizations have long supported important food security efforts by teaching horticulture and permaculture skills.  They also both have an enduring commitment to growing and donating tons of fresh food for Winnipeg Harvest.

While all gardeners are encouraged to Grow-a-Row for Winnipeg Harvest, this year City Hall will be participating too!  I look forward to joining my colleagues Councillor Brian Mayes, Chair of the Food Council, the Food Council Coordinator Jeanette Sivilay, along with Mayor Brian Bowman as we don our gardening gloves and plant together in the garden beds at city-hall.

Also new this year, in recognition of city-wide gardening efforts, Community Garden programs will receive free compost!  The details will be out shortly and compost will be available on-request.

Winnipeg Harvest has a handy "grass to garden" guide to assist you in getting started. If you are planning to Grow-A-Row for Harvest or want to learn more email: info@winnipegharvest.org
