Spring Clean-up

Posted on: April 24, 2020

Spring Cleaning Crews are out and working across the city

Removal of sand, debris and litter is an annual (and hotly!) anticipated event in Winnipeg.  The drudgery of winter over, the grounds is starting to thaw, revealing debris and litter.

Time to clean it up!  With over 500 staff and other contract workers out on city streets there is a massive undertaking on city streets.  Here are some tips and links.

Know your zone!

You can follow the progress of spring cleaning by viewing the cities interactive street cleanup map.  You can also learn more about parking restrictions using the Know Your Zone app.  Once you download the app you will receive push notifications approximately 24-hours in advance of planned cleanup operations.

Move your car to ensure that your neigbourhood gets a thorough clean

Every year since I started as your City Councillor, I get a lot of case work of angry residents unhappy with the spring clean.  The majority of the calls are due to people not moving their vehicles.  When vehicles are not moved, crews can’t get to the spaces they need to.  A spotty clean is the resultant impact.  Ensuring you and your neighbours move their cars off the street is one manner to help the city get a thorough clean.

You can avoid costly tickets and tows by adhering to temporary no parking signs that are placed on streets when crews are working.  Vehicles parked in violation may be ticketed and towed which can come at a cost to car owners.

A final note on boulevard sand

Unless it is deemed to be excessive, residents are responsible to clean up the sand.  The city details excessive sand with illustrative pictures.  If you are concerned that your boulevard looks like it has extreme amount of sand please consider the pictures and contact 311 to dispatch cleaning crews to the site.
