Radon test kits available at a library near you

Posted on: October 31, 2025

Back when I was Chairperson of Protection, Community Services and Parks the Manitoba Lung Association reached out to discuss an important partnership.  Would Winnipeg agree to Radon tests in public libraries?

Fast forward to October 31st at the Cornish Library.

We announced in partnership with the Manitoba Lung Association, the City of Winnipeg is now providing radon screening kits that residents can freely take out with their library cards from any library in the city for three weeks—just like a book.

Radon has no colour, no odour and no taste but is the 2nd highest cause of lung cancer behind smoking. According to Pam Warkentin, executive director of Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists, there are recent estimates that 43% of homes in the province have elevated radon levels.

I took one home that day…. You can too!  Please share your results with me!  You can find more information from the City of Winnipeg here: https://www.winnipeg.ca/people-culture/our-city-our-stories/radon-screening-kits-now-available-library.
