Today at the City Centre meeting. Councillor Cindy Gilroy and I passed a unanimous motion to make Portage and Main accessible at grade!
I believe that Portage and Main should be accessible and available for pedestrians. A walkable intersection is key to increasing downtown livability, and making our downtown vibrant and livable is one of my priorities as a Councillor.
The motion:
That Rule 10(3) of The Procedure By-law No. 50/2007 be suspended in order that the following item, which was received less than four business days preceding the committee meeting, be considered by Committee.
WHEREAS Council’s top priority is a strong downtown;
AND WHEREAS Winnipeggers are being consulted with respect to needed investments at Portage and Main;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Standing Policy Committee on Public Works be requested to direct the Public Service to explore opportunities for improved multimodal access at at-grade crossing at Portage and Main.
