Amoowigamig

Public washrooms are important life-sustaining services. It gives the public a safe, secure, and dignified place to use for their health needs, especially for those who are unsheltered.

Amoowigamig is located at 715 Main St. and has seen 3,000 to 5,000 visitors since its establishment in June of 2022.

There are already limited spaces in the city where people can access public washrooms and harm reduction supplies (which Amoowigamig offers). Amoowigamig needs to remain open at 10 hours per day, and I will continue to advocate for this and for the tremendous impact it has on public health. If we cut its hours of service now, we are decreasing public facilities and services that benefit Winnipeg’s equity-deserving communities.

Thank you to the work of Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata for running the facility 10 hours per day from Monday to Sunday. Let us continue to work together to maintain Amoowigamig.

I will repeat it again: Every person deserves the right to safe and clean accessible washrooms.
