On June 24th Winnipeg City Council passed OurWinnipeg 2045 and Complete Communities Direction Strategy 2.0 including key amendments.
Residents made it clear during a global pandemic that greenspace is a top priority for them. In the 25-year planning document OurWinnipeg 2045 recognizes those priorities. Along with OURS Winnipeg leaders Pam Lucenkiw and Ron Mazur and Save Our Seine leaders Laurie Ringaert and Michele Kading we worked to co-create and craft amendments to the strategic plan that better reflected Winnipeggers concerns for their greenspaces and biodiversity.
Key ways this document does this are:
1. Committing to increase public land reserve by adding 1,000 acres of public park space
2. Creating a master green space and natural corridor plan by-law to conserve, restore, and enhance natural areas.
3. Integrating green infrastructure solutions into the urban environment.
Green space is important to our communities and OurWinnipeg 2045 will support and protect the greenspace that Winnipeg already has, and add more.
