Congratulations to the two Community Centres in Fort Rouge-East Fort Garry that were successful in receiving Community Centre Renovation Grant Program funding for the 2021 Spring Intake:
- Fort Garry Community Centre – Interior Renovations Project – $97,514.68.
- Riverview Community Centre – Electrical and Mechanical Upgrades Project – $100,000.00.
I’m pleased to see so many of our community centres receive the funding they need to update their facilities and benefit all the people who use them. Community centres play an integral role in building healthy communities and I’m looking forward to the day we are able to reopen.
As background, on February 22, 2012, Council approved the CCRGP of up to $965,000.00 to be funded annually by the Land Operating Reserve, commencing in 2012. The CCRGP supports repairs, upgrades, retrofits, safety improvements and renovation projects at City of Winnipeg community centre facilities.
On March 20, 2019, Council approved an additional $1.035 million per year for the program (for a combined total of $2 million) for five years beginning in 2019 up to 2023, with the additional funding provided from the Financial Stabilization Reserve.
On July 18, 2019, Council enacted the CCRGP By-law which features expanded eligibility criteria in concert with an increased maximum funding threshold per project of up to $100,000. The program was expanded to allow 50% funding for renovations of indoor arenas, ice plants, fieldhouses, and soccer complexes. The program has also been expanded to allow for renovations of permanent outdoor hockey pens. These changes to the CCRGP took effect for the Fall 2019 CCRGP Intake.
An Evaluation Committee comprised of representation from Community Services and Planning, Property and Development Departments as well as the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres, review the applications and make recommendations.
The CCRGP Program has two intake periods:
Spring Intake – submission deadline of March 15th
Fall Intake – submission deadline of October 15th
