Manitoba Hydro Clear Cutting at Sandra Crowson Park without notice

Posted on: June 4, 2021

Without notice East Fort Garry is experiencing the clear cutting of trees and brush in an important piece of natural open space area of Sandra Crowson Bay Park.  There have been chain saws going for three days mowing down up to 12 ft bordering residents’ property along hydro lines.

Residents had no notice and no recourse by the time the trees were down. Sandra Crowson Park is home to owls, hawks, fox, raccoon, indigenous plants and so much more.

Similar to what happened at Omand’s Creek.  It is unacceptable that at minimum, residents with adjacent properties to the park be notified of this work like they are in regards to other Manitoba Hydro work that occurs.

This park has a good quality oak and aspen forest with a diversity of native species.  There are also trees representing river bottom forest found within the park.
