Winnipeg Transit's Master Plan was approved at Council on April 29th by a vote of 15-1.
Winnipeggers wanted bold transformational change with transit and that is what they have got. This plan increases the frequency of buses and provides better connection throughout the city.
I would like to acknowledge the advocacy work of Functional Transit Winnipeg and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local #1505 that has helped this strategic planning document come to fruition.
The Winnipeg Transit Master Plan will include six capital projects:
- Bus radio and intelligent transportation system project
- North Garage replacement
- Transition to zero-emission buses (including the purchase of 100 zero-emission buses)
- Rapid Transit (downtown corridors) preliminary design
- Primary Transit Network Infrastructure
- Wheelchair securements retro-fitT
