Motion Action on Equity

Given the impacts of the pandemic on low-income and raciliazed Winnipeggers, this motion is intended to help ensure protection measures are being taken to protect the most vulnerable in our city.

Moved by Councillor Rollins,

     WHEREAS the Province of Manitoba announced additional restrictions for Winnipeg within the Critical (Red) Level of the Provincial Pandemic Response System that takes effect today, November 12, 2020;

AND WHEREAS the City’s Non-Profit Community provides emergency services to higher needs communities including those who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity;

AND WHEREAS the City of Winnipeg has conducted important work during the pandemic to respond to food banks operating out of our community centers, and recreation sites, and has recently partnered with WE24 operating out of Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre to augment this non-for-profit response.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that while the City of Winnipeg is under “red restrictions” due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, that the Winnipeg Public Service provide the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks with monthly verbal updates regarding:

1.         Its efforts to protect and support the City’s most vulnerable residents;

2.         The impact on the department’s services;

3.         The department’s contribution to enforcement efforts.
