Honouring the Words of Elder Meade: Entering the City Hall Chamber with humility and spirit!

November 6, 2018 - At the Inauguration, Elder Norman Meade blessed the new council with an unforgettably beautiful prayer. His words were both prayer, and important guidance to bring about good spirit and intention in our work.

Speaking personally, Elder Meade officiated at my husband’s Auntie Edna’s funeral service in Manigatogan. This was where I was first introduced to him. It was especially meaningful to hear from him at our very first council meeting. I want to share with you what I took to heart.
He reminded us to humble ourselves before entering the council chamber.

His eyes have seen innumerable meetings, so the wisdom he offered for us to take-courage in work at city hall was well received.

He provided special words of encouragement to the women in the room, both those elected and re-elected.

Women city councillors are still well underrepresented in Canada. (Under 30%) It was so lovely to hear him encourage the women to bring our spirit to the circle.

He spoke of honouring and remembering our veterans. Remembering to honour them in our work and reflect on the rights and freedoms gained with their sacrifice.

While I’ve summarized what I heard, feel free to listen to his real spoken words here.
